Caring, Café & Cottages

p1040244 Time for some health and wellbeing pampering. I took myself to a quaint Café in the little village of Yungaburra, up on the Atherton Tablelands. I was overdue for some special ‘caring’ me time. I hadn’t been in this little Café before, but it felt  delightful: the glistening white crockery against the mat timber table; the honey-timber french doors; the outdoor timber furniture settings with posies of flowers and the hanging rainforest plants were beckoning me.

If outside was welcoming, I wondered what was in store for me inside. As I stepped in, I was greeted with a timber banquet table in the middle of the gift shop. Then the variety of old chairs caught my attention: two of them were a newspaper fabric, a couple of old wicket chairs and old pine chairs. It was an interesting mixed collection of chairs. It was certainly different from having the sterotypical same chairs. The gift shop was very pretty to look out and a place my nieces would thoroughly enjoy. On the other side of the gift shop was the local products including yummy homemade chutney, which I did partake.

I indulged in a homemade potato and leek mini quiche with homemade chilli chutney. It was ‘to die for’. So light and fluffy. This was followed by a gluten free chocolate cake and a pot of early grey tea. This shop is more of a light snack Café with gifts, attached to cute cottages in the rear.

It’s not often I find someone with the same namesake, but I complimented her on her cute little shop. And also found out they had the Allumbah Pocket Cottages. Behind the hedges and old Queenslander were six romantic getaway weatherboard cottages. I took a peak inside. I could quite easily kick back there if I were staying at Yungaburra for a weekend.

I like that the Café not only supports local products but especially the local owned biodynamic Mungalli Creek Dairy.  When I pulled up outside the old Queenslander and saw the Mungalli signs, I knew it would mean one thing. That the rich creamy milk, not homogenised, would do justice to my cup of tea. It was a relaxing place to take care of oneself while enjoying a hot cuppa and homemade foods — such a treat.

  1. Maria Good to see that you are looking after yourself. We have stayed at those cottages and enjoyed our time there. We would say, go to dinner at Nicks and enjoy a sleep in without the drive home at night. Take care Stan & Daniela Stan Sheppard sshep28@bigpond.com

  2. It sounds divine, and the perfect place to escape and have some time to yourself. I was lucky enough to be able to squeeze in a facial last week, and that 45 minutes of quiet alone time (not to mention the shoulder massage) was exactly what I needed to get me through the back end of our very first school term! Now, if I could just find the time to use the voucher I got last year for the fancy day spa up the road I’d be dancing!
